Assistant Principal – Inclusion and welfare
I am originally from Staffordshire. I came to teaching in 1994 after several years working as an accountant and, immediately, I knew that I had found my vocation! I can honestly say that I love teaching. I have worked at Trinity C of E High School in Moss Side, then at Droylsden High School for Girls/Droylsden Academy, and since 2013 I have worked at Walkden.
I am a Modern Foreign Languages teacher and, over the years, I have become Head of Languages and then moved onto Senior Leadership. I have taken responsibility for many aspects of school life. Most recently, that of inclusion and welfare across the Academy.
My current responsibilities include being SENDCo, Designated Safeguarding Lead, and Designated Teacher for Looked After Children.
I am lucky enough to have a large team of committed and effective staff who work hard to meet the needs of students and ensure their safety and well-being in the Academy. This includes the Hive.
The Hive is a thriving provision for students with cognition and learning difficulties. I am proud of the Hive and the support the SEND team provides to our students.
My vision is that every student will look forward to coming to the Academy every day, knowing they have the support they need to achieve. We want our students to achieve socially, academically, and emotionally, both now and in the future, and we will guide them to do this.
I love my job and all the wonderful students at Co-op Academy Walkden. There is never a dull day. Although there are challenges, there is also an enormous sense of achievement and satisfaction in working with our young people who inspire me daily.
