Anti-Bullying Week 2022

During the week beginning 14th November 2022, we are supporting Anti-Bullying Week.

Anti-Bullying Week is an annual event organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance and supported by schools nationally.

Each year, Anti-Bullying Week has an individual theme set by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. This year’s theme is ‘Reach Out’. The Anti-Bullying Alliance chose this theme because:

“The theme of Reach Out came about following consultation with teachers and pupils by the Anti-Bullying Alliance which coordinates Anti-Bullying Week every year in England and Wales. Teachers and children wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes.”

You can find out more about the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s campaign here, and you can watch their latest video for the ‘Reach Out’ campaign here.

Students: Report Bullying

If you are being bullied or know of anyone who is being bullied at Walkden, tell a staff member.

If you are comfortable, you can tell your Personal Development tutor or your Head of Year. If you feel more comfortable talking to another member of staff, that is ok too.

If you do not feel you can speak to a staff member directly, you can report incidents of bullying on our website. If you go to the homepage, there is a button called ‘Students: Report a Concern.’ If you click on this, you can fill in a Google Form that your Head of Year will pick up.

Students: What we are doing at Walkden

All students will have an assembly introducing Anti-Bullying Week. We will cover the importance of equality for all, and also launch our Anti-Bullying Ambassador programme.

Odd sock day (week!)

We ask our students to wear odd socks to the Academy to show they are not afraid to be themselves.

We would ask parents/carers or older students to take a photo, share it on social media, tag us in @WalkdenCoop and use the hashtag #AntiBullyingWeek and #BeingCoop.

Reach out

In keeping with the theme of this year’s Anti-Bullying Alliance campaign, we are asking our students to ‘Reach Out’ to a staff member or another student.

“Bullying affects millions of lives and can leave us feeling hopeless. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we challenge it, we can change it. And it starts by reaching out.”

Parents/Carers: How can you get involved?

If you have any questions or want to report bullying, you can do so by contacting your child’s Head of Year. Their email address can be found here.

You could snap their odd socks and share them on your social media. Remember to tag us in @WalkdenCoop and use the hashtags #AntiBullyingWeek and #BeingCoop.
