Here at Co-op Academy Walkden we want every pupil to have the opportunity to go to Prom. We have a range of Prom dresses and suits available, free of charge, many of which are brand now or worn only once. There is a range of styles and sizes ranging from a women’s size 4 – 26 and mens small to XL.

If you would like to try on any of the items please complete the google form with the reference number of the item(s) in the catalogue. Miss Hamilton or Mrs Earley will then pass the item(s) to you at the end of the school day so you can try it on at home. If it fits and you would like to wear it to Prom then please keep it, if not, just return it to us at school

Co-op Academies Trust has been chosen by the Department for Education to run paid Teaching Internships in STEM and Languages across it’s Greater Manchester academies.

Postgraduate teacher recruitment in 2022-23 was 29% below the Government’s target. This was mainly driven by low recruitment for secondary teachers, where only 59% of trainees needed were recruited. 

As part of a renewed drive to encourage graduates to go into teaching, the Government is revamping their approach. 

Teaching Internships were first introduced a number of years ago, but all providers had to reapply for accreditation this year. The subject focus was also widened to include Chemistry and Foreign Languages. 

Co-op Academies Trust was accredited as a new provider in 2022, joining legacy providers across the region. The trust has 38 Teaching Internships across its 6 Greater Manchester Secondary Schools, in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computing and MFL

With Teaching Internships, graduates get the opportunity to experience a range of activities to help them get a feel for school life.

The experience provides undergraduates interested in teaching a unique paid teaching experience to help them decide if teaching is the right career choice for them.  

Internships last for 3 weeks and start from Monday 19th June- Friday 7th July 2023.

Interns are paid £300 per-week whilst they gain new skills and insights into the teaching profession.

Co-op Academies Trust Teacher Training provision was set up to address the shortfall in teacher recruitment as well as retain more practitioners into the profession.

The Teaching Internship Programme allows us to introduce potential teachers to the profession whilst they are studying and then support them with their continued ‘Get into Teaching’ journey onto our School Direct ITT Programme.

On Wednesday 14th December, we are welcoming our students to join us in wearing their Christmas jumpers in support of the Save the Children Charity. We will also be serving a festive lunch at the Academy. Save the Children have helped 45 million children across the world get the medicine, good food and education they need. If students would like to wear their Christmas jumper, a donation of £1 can be made through ParentPay.

The uniform code for the 14th December is as follows:

• Christmas jumpers can be worn instead of a school jumper and blazer. 
• All other items of uniform (shirt, tie, skirt/trousers etc.) must be in line with the school’s uniform policy. 
• If you choose not to wear a Christmas jumper then you must come in your full uniform with blazer as usual.
• Christmas jumpers only please – no sports hoodies will be allowed. If these are worn, parents will be contacted to bring your blazer in.

This year, the Academy has decided to do a ‘Christmas Can Collection’ for all those who may need a little extra help this Christmas. The aim is to collect as many canned and non-perishable food items as possible before Monday 19th December. All food donations will be donated to Bridgewater youth centre to distribute to the families in our community.

Why do we ask for canned food?

Canned food has a long shelf life and are easy to store away. Canned foods can be just as nutritious as fresh and frozen foods because canning preserves many nutrients.

The number of minerals, fat-soluble vitamins, protein, fat and carbohydrate remains relatively unchanged by the process of canning.

How can you help?

The items that we are requesting are below. You could ask other family members even neighbours for some canned foods too! Show you care and help people who need our support in the local community. Everybody deserves a Christmas Dinner! If you wish to donate items, students can drop donations off at the Discovery office.

Items that you could donate:

• Tins of soup
• Stuffing mixture
• Gravy granules
• Tinned vegetables
• Tinned meat
• Instant mash potato or tinned potatoes
• Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate
• Bags of pasta
• Sugar
• Non-perishable food (long shelf life and doesn’t require refrigeration)

Items not to include:

We ask that you avoid donating any items such as refrigerated or frozen foods. Foods containing nuts and anything containing alcohol.
