European Junior Champion - Amelie

You may have seen or heard about one of our incredible students at Co-op Academy Walkden recently. Amelie is an up-and-coming big star in the swimming world, and you can read below how there is nothing stopping this young lady from reaching the top of her game.

Earlier this year, Amelie had an outstanding performance in the Ontario Junior International in Toronto, swimming for Great Britain.

Amelie won the 800 free in 18:19.85 breaking her own British junior short course record again, becoming 6th best in the world this year.

In total, she won two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal. Gold in the 1500 and 800 freestyle, silver in the 400 freestyle and bronze in the 400 individual med.

Amelie also broke three British junior records: 1500 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 400 freestyle.

Amelie has recently been out in Lithuania Swimming for Great Britain in the European Junior Swimming Championships.

Earlier in July, she became European Junior Champion in the 1500 Freestyle & won Great Britain’s first gold of the championships.

Amelie, at age 15, beat the best juniors (18 & under) in Europe, including the current European Senior champion.

Amelie also smashed the GB Junior record for the 15 year old age group as she took apart a high quality field in securing victory by a 7-second margin.

Amelie is now double European Junior Champion and there is nothing stopping her from continuing on this road to success.
